Q.What is the money spent on?
We spend the money raised on a variety of one off purchases and ongoing activities for the school.
For example
We pay for after school clubs such as music lessons or poetry competition entries.
We subsidise school trips so that all children, regardless of circumstances can attend with their classes.
FOSJ activities: We need certain materiel assets (Santas grotto, drapes for disco decoration, gazebo for Summer fair cafe) for the FOSJ activities. We store these for reuse.
One Offs such as a new speaker system for the hall.
No-one on the FOSJ is paid for their time.

Q.Doesn’t the school have the money for that stuff?
No. One of the charms of St Johns is its small size, but UK school funds are allocated on a weighting that prioritises numbers of children and number of disadvantaged pupils in the school. We are lower in both of these. The Head prioritises great teachers and lesson materials, and so the school has several means of augmenting this – and FOSJ is one of those.
Q.How much is raised?
On average, we make a total of 20-25k per year. Costs are always about 10-12k.
That means 10-12k profit per year for spending on the above options.

Q. How is this decided?
The Chair meets with reps regularly. If you have any ideas, tell your rep or mail the Chair direct. All ideas are then put past the Headteacher who decides what is best, informed as to the cost by the Chair and Treasurer. The Chair will do their best to make sure that all ideas submitted are replied to. If you feel you have an idea that has ‘vanished’ or you have not had a response to an idea then mail the chair direct –
