Pupils at STJHV have a good starting point and our aim is develop and nurture these pupils to become confident and independent learners before they leave for their next chapter. Our pupils achieve very well, and the longer children spend in our school the better they do. Our pupils perform significantly better than national averages in reading, writing and mathematics in each of the three core areas and their progress is inline or above national.

We are very proud of our children: our results were at or above the national average in almost every measure, from Reception right through to Year 6.

Progress from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2

Progress scores show how much progress children made compared with other children nationally who had similar starting points. The national average is 0, so a positive score means above-average progress.

We are especially proud that our reading progress score places the school in the top 20% of schools nationally. Progress scores for 2026 are an interim measure and may be revised when the DfE confirms its final methodology.

With around 30 children in each year group, one child represents just over 3% of the results, so small differences from year to year are normal. Figures may be updated following the DfE’s autumn 2026 tables checking exercise.

What do these terms mean?

Good Level of Development (GLD)

A child at the end of Reception who has reached the expected level in the key areas of learning, including communication, literacy, maths and personal development.

Expected standard

The level the Department for Education expects most children to reach by the end of each stage.

Greater depth / higher standard

Working securely above the expected standard. In the KS2 tests, this means a scaled score of 110 or more.

Scaled score

Test results converted onto a common scale, where 100 represents the expected standard.

Progress score

A measure of how much progress children made between Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, compared with children nationally who had similar Key Stage 1 results. The national average is 0.
