The Learning Council at St John’s works hard to ensure that children’s rights are respected. These children were democratically elected by their peers and represent them in discussions about learning with the school’s senior leaders.

Get to know the members of the learning council:

Hi my name is Eliza and I like being in the learning council, making the school a fun and enjoyable place. I have lots of different favourite subjects, but I want everyone to enjoy their favourites too. If I had to choose an article it would be article 12 because for me It really stands out.

Hi I am Immy from Year 5 and I am part of the learning council. I would like to point out Article 27 because I believe every child should be able to access food, clothing and a safe home to have a happy life. Here at St John’s we think everyone should be able to have this right, and we will do as much as we can if they don’t.

My name is Abby. I am so happy to be in the learning council because I can make my school a happier and safer place for all the teachers and kids. I think the learning council shows Article 12, to respect children’s views, and in the learning council we share all our ideas.

Hi, my name is Louis. I am very happy to be in the learning council. I want to make our school more fun and happy. I think Article 13 is important because we should all share our thoughts.

Hi I’m Arlo and I am one of the Y4 learning councilors. I think that a learning councilor’s job is to be a person who respects the rights of a child. It should make people feel safe at school by following the Articles 1 to 45.

Hello, my name is Ezra and I am part of the learning council. I think this shows Article 13 which states that children have the right to give their opinions freely. I chose to become a learning council member because I want to help this school and make it a better place.
