Writing Across the Curriculum
Where possible, we plan in opportunities for writing throughout the curriculum. In Science, children have the opportunity to plan, predict and write up experiments that they carry out. Through history and geography children have the opportunity to write in role, report findings or produce recounts of educational visits they have been on.
Power of Reading
We believe that through the use of high quality text in English lesson, the children are exposed to excellent examples of writing, in which they can use as a model. We aim to teach all grammar skills within context of the texts, so that children learn to apply the skills in a meaningful way and not in a discrete way, which is harder to retain.
Spelling
Children in Key Stage 2 are given a set of spellings in which they will be expected to learn across a two week period. Within English lessons, the children follow an eight phase programme, where spellings are explored, segmented, rehearsed and revised. We believe through this method, the learning of the spellings becomes embedded and retained for longer.
